Emma Domleo

I am currently a 3D Design student at Manchester Metropolitan University. I design mainly lighting and decorative objects.
My main influence is the natural world because of the rural upbringing I had in Devon with the main focus being either pattern or form.
Although the project for university has finished I really want to continue to develop my glass bowls, here I have a render of the possibility of using coloured glass. Having different colours will open a creative path to other pattern ideas.

This is the latest development from my project and I have shown it at my degree show.

After testing plastic and metal, I found that I could make my pattern very intricute and produce a decorative centre piece.

My metal bowl didn’t feel resolved, so I tried glass. I could not cut the pattern from the middle of the sheet so I adapted by sandblasting the pattern instead. This has opened up a ‘door’ to try other patterns.

My latest project looked at patterns in nature. I became inspired by the brain coral and the final pattern came from testing the metal. The previous tests became warped when I spun it, but I found that through these tests that the visual aspect of the pattern greatly improved.

This is my aluminium light that I created before Christmas. My inspiration for it was the layering of petal that you see with flowers like roses. I intend to show it at New Designers this year.
This light was a steep learning curve for me because at the time I had little knowledge of Solidworks, but I found that it was easy to learn. This light is designed for bars or restaurants, but it could quite easily be used in a modern home.
